A cena con San Francesco

Join Heritage Calabria for a unique evening of food, music and history, in celebration of our region’s patron saint, San Francesco di Paola.

Did you know that San Francesco di Paola embraced a mostly vegan diet? The Franciscan monk lead a simple and pious lifestyle, embracing the commandment “do no harm”. He refrained from eating meat, eggs, and dairy products, not only for religious reasons, but also for his health. In 1880, the recipes of more than 470 delicious dishes enjoyed by San Francesco in his daily life were published, as a guide for his Franciscan brothers. La cucina di strettissimo magro is a collection of recipes that, like so much of the cucina Italiana, use only the freshest and simplest ingredients to create pure magic. And, it is the inspiration behind the menu for this event. You don’t want to miss it!   Event Details: Saturday, April 2, 2022 Ristorante Boccaccio in the Columbus Centre (901 Lawrence Avenue West, Toronto) Doors open at 6PM, Dinner served at 7PM Tickets: $50/person (includes 3-course plated meal, coffee/dessert station, live music) Cash bar, Raffle prizes Menu: Antipasti Dita di Nettuno (potato croquette w/ scarola) Melanzane ripiene Polpette fritte di riso (rice croquette) Paniccia fritta (panella) Primo Minestra in brodo per l’inverno Secondo Timballo di melanzane Contorni Patate marinate Fagiuoletti verdi
